As 2018 comes to a close I can reflect back on what has been another good year for Rosie Fry Eventing. With my top horse, Arise Cavalier, out with an injury from March it would be a lie if I said it was a damaging start to the season. He has been my flag bearer for the last couple of seasons with a CIC2* win & eigth, CCI2* second and sixth in 2017 so I was really looking forward to stepping him up to 3* level, alas it wasn't meant to be this season but everything crossed he will be back better and stronger for 2019.
However, the younger horses really stepped up to the plate. Augusta Firefly with a fantastic win in the Chatsworth CIC1* and then a 6th at Nunney CIC2* before a top 15 finish in difficult conditions at Blair Castle CCI2*. She is all set for a step up to advanced in 2019.
True Blue Too jumping double clear round his first intermediate and then finishing his season with a competitive 11th place in the big CCI1* at Blair Castle.
Aunt Augusta also jumped a double clear round her first intermediate and had two really good CCI1* completions, at Tattersalls and Blair Castle.
Sportsfield G Warrior has had a very consistent season at Novice but sadly did not enjoy the hard ground conditions in the summer so didn't get to run as much as we would have liked. He still picked up a couple of top 5 placings and will be ready for a CCI1* in the Spring 2019.
My mother and I's homebred Kiwi Cruise turned out to be a little star in her first season eventing. Jumping 5/6 double clears at BE100. Again her season was short due to the weather but she is an exciting prospect for 2019.
We waved Aberdare Lady, Vision D'Auteil (sold to Lucy Jackson) and the lovely 4yo Rossmount Trendy (sold to Samantha Alberto for Sam Gillespie to ride) off to their new homes this year. I wish them lots of luck for the future and can't wait to follow their progress.
We will have a couple of spaces for competition/schooling livery for 2019 if anyone is interested in joining our small, friendly but hard working team.
I am now looking forward to a winter of hunting, riding out racehorses for my brother, Harry and training in prep for 2019!
I am ever thankful to my hard working home team, head girl Edie Pender-Cudlip and part time girl Amy Mottola as well as my wonderfully supportive mother.
